Careem is building the Everything App for the greater Middle East — making it easy to move around, order food and groceries, manage payments, and more. Since 2012, Careem has enabled earnings for over 2.5 million Captains and simplified the lives of more than 70 million customers across 70+ cities in 10 countries. Now entering its next chapter — one powered by AI — Careem is looking for a Senior Product Designer to own the evolution of its design system.
The Role & Impact
Careem's design system underpins every product experience across the super app: rides, food, groceries, payments, and beyond. This is a hands-on senior IC role for someone who is both a rigorous systems designer and a capable AI tool-builder. You'll govern the token architecture, component library, and documentation that keep a multi-vertical platform coherent — and you'll use AI to make the system faster to maintain, easier to adopt, and smarter to build with.
What You'll Do
- Own the Design System: Manage the full lifecycle of tokens, components, and patterns — from inception to shipping, iteration, and deprecation
- Set Standards: Enforce standards for colour, type, spacing, and interaction across iOS, Android, and web — including RTL/Arabic locales
- Champion Accessibility: Treat WCAG compliance as a system-level guarantee, managing the backlog with product and engineering partners
- Make the System AI-Native: Structure tokens so agentic design-to-code and prompt-to-design workflows produce on-system output; build Code Connect mappings, MCP integrations, and structured component metadata
- Drive Adoption: Facilitate design system guilds and critiques, and raise the organisation's AI proficiency through workshops
What You Bring
- Deep experience in design systems and token architecture at scale
- Hands-on capability with AI-assisted workflows, Figma plugins, or agent tooling
- A track record of shipping accessible, cross-platform products in fast-moving environments
