About the Team
OpenAI's Applied AI Engineering team helps organizations turn frontier AI capabilities into safe, reliable, and high-impact production systems. You'll work with customer executives, product and engineering teams, security leaders, and transformation teams to identify valuable opportunities, accelerate technical implementation, and scale what works. This role is based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, with a hybrid model of 3 days in the office per week and relocation assistance offered to new employees.
The Role & Impact
As an Applied AI Engineer, you'll partner directly with leading organizations to design, build, and deploy AI systems that deliver measurable business outcomes. You'll combine deep technical judgment, hands-on engineering, and customer leadership to take ambitious ideas from use-case selection and architecture through prototyping, evaluation, production launch, and scale.
What You'll Do
- Write and debug code, and build evaluation systems for production AI deployments
- Resolve complex integrations and guide decisions on model behavior, reliability, latency, cost, safety, security, governance, and operational readiness
- Partner with enterprise stakeholders across diverse data environments and architectures
- Turn lessons from real deployments into reusable patterns and better products
- Drive sustained adoption and meaningful customer impact — not just successful demonstrations
What You Bring
- Strong hands-on engineering background with experience building and shipping production systems
- Deep understanding of modern LLM/AI stack: prompting, evaluation, fine-tuning, RAG, agents, and deployment patterns
- Ability to navigate complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise environments
- A builder's mindset: you ship, measure, and iterate
