Senior Backend Engineer (Ruby) — Build Agentic AI on GitLab's Duo Agent Platform (Remote, UK)
GitLab is the intelligent orchestration platform for DevSecOps, trusted by 50M+ registered users and more than half of the Fortune 100 to ship better, more secure software faster. This is a chance to work on the AI layer of that platform — the Duo Agent Platform (DAP) — where autonomous agents act on real customer codebases.
The Role & Impact
The DAP Repository Flows team owns two critical areas. First, DAP onboarding — getting customers from zero to productive on the platform with minimal friction. Second, repository and background flows — autonomous and scheduled agents that work on a customer's codebase on their behalf. You'll own features end to end, from design through delivery, building agentic experiences that are central to how GitLab delivers AI-powered automation.
What You'll Build
- Autonomous and scheduled agents that operate on customer repositories, built on top of the Duo Agent Platform
- A smoother onboarding path so customers can configure a project and become productive quickly
- Shared interfaces and patterns with engineers across the DAP organization
What You Bring
- Strong, hands-on experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails in production systems
- Experience integrating LLMs into products (product integration, not ML model training)
- Experience building agentic systems — autonomous or semi-autonomous agents that take action on a user's behalf
- A track record of designing and shipping features independently in a collaborative team
- Strong written communication for a distributed, async-first environment
