The Role & Impact
Babbel Labs is looking for a Senior Principal Engineer to define and drive the long-term technical strategy for AI-powered content systems across the organization. This is a Senior Principal-level individual contributor role with organization-wide scope — you'll own the technical direction for AI content systems and lead work across multiple teams, products, and domains.
What You'll Do
- Define and drive the long-term technical strategy for AI-powered content systems, aligned with Babbel Labs' business objectives and product vision
- Shape architectural direction across teams and domains — key decisions on platforms, tooling, AI infrastructure, and build-versus-buy approaches
- Combine strategic leadership with hands-on impact: architecture ownership, design reviews, coaching, and prototyping
- Work across AI, content, product, and platform engineering to establish shared standards and align teams
- Ensure AI-enabled systems are scalable, reliable, secure, and measurable in their impact on business and learner outcomes
- Get directly involved in the most complex technical challenges
What You Bring
- Deep engineering experience at principal/staff level, with architecture ownership across multiple teams
- Strong background in AI/ML systems, content platforms, or large-scale product engineering
- Experience setting technical vision and standards that teams actually adopt
- Hands-on capability — you prototype and review complex designs personally
- Excellent cross-functional leadership: AI, content, product, and platform teams working as one
