Staff Forward Deployed Engineer, Agentic SDLC — GitLab, Remote EMEA — Customer-Facing Product Engineering
What This Role Really Is
This is not traditional field engineering, solutions architecture, or professional services. GitLab's Forward Deployed Engineering team is a field-situated product engineering function focused on strategic customer outcomes, AI adoption, and direct contributions to GitLab's product. As a Staff Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll work closely with customers while maintaining the technical standards and contribution discipline of a Staff-level product engineer.
Why It Exists
Strategic customers sometimes hit challenges that are too broad, deep, urgent, or cross-functional for any single team to own: product gaps, performance degradation, scale bottlenecks, AI governance, adoption blockers, architectural constraints, CI/CD complexity, API automation, security requirements, or operational instability. Forward Deployed Engineering provides technical stewardship in those moments.
What You'll Do
- Diagnose and resolve high-impact adoption blockers at strategic customers
- Contribute production-quality code, bug fixes, features, integrations, and tooling directly to GitLab's product
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Support, SRE, Solutions Architecture, Customer Success, and Professional Services
- Turn what you learn into repeatable patterns — for GitLab and its customers
- Work within GitLab's product processes: issue discovery, merge requests, and more
Who Fits
- Staff-level product engineering skills with real customer-facing instincts
- Comfort with ambiguity: you engage, diagnose, build, and hand off cleanly
- Deep understanding of Git, CI/CD, and developer workflows
- Based anywhere in the listed EMEA countries — fully remote
Why GitLab
You'll be the bridge between the product and its most demanding users, with the mandate to actually change the code. Rare role, rare leverage — and a front-row seat to how the world's software gets built.
